Yemen Build Headquarters in Bab Al-Mandab

Sanaa, Yemen are building a coast guard base on an island in the straits Chapters strategic al-Mandab for protecting the traffic on the important shipping route connecting Europe and Asia.
Western concerns about security, since a failed al Qaeda attack on the United States last December, has increased security on its beach facilities earlier this year to keep it from guerrilla attacks.
In February, the group of Al Qaeda based in Yemen, called for a blockade on the strait, where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden, in order to break the U.S. cruise ship to Israel.
Somalia's pirate-pirates who operate in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean have also been stepped up attacks in recent months, hijacked ships, including tankers.
"The headquarters will be located on the island Miyoun, formerly known as Perim. Its construction was started earlier this year," said coast guard sources told Reuters.
"Post that will protect the movement of ships in the straits Bab al-Mandab," said the source who did not mention her name without giving more details.
Location of Yemen in the Arabian Peninsula, the southern perimeter make it close with one of the busiest shipping corridors in the world that led to the Suez Canal.
More than three million barrels of oil through the straits Bab al-Mandab every day from the Gulf on its way to Europe and the U.S..
